Katherine Elenore Faulkner (Griffith), 101, of Melbourne, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, February 22, 2013. She was a resident of Atlantic Shores Nursing & Rehab Center since October 2012. Katherine was born on May 30, 1911 in Newtown, MA to William R. and Bessie V. Griffith. Soon after her birth her family relocated to PA where Kay remained until her retirement. Kay received her undergraduate and Master's degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Kay taught Heath and Physical Education at the high school level after her graduation then moved onto the college level. Many of her happy memories are when she coached the various girls and men's intercollegiate teams in field hockey, swimming, basketball and archery. After her retirement at age 47, Katherine moved around the country and finally in the early 70's she made FL her permanent residence. Until recently Kay resided with her younger sister, Adelaide Virginia Perry, at Glenbrooke of Palm Bay. Katherine was a three time cancer survivor who never let the disease keep her down. She took up golfing after her retirement and was very active in various women's golfing groups. She was an avid bridge player often partnering with her sister. She enjoyed playing BINGO and socializing. When she was in her late 80's she often volunteered at the local hospital pushing the library cart around to the patients' rooms. Katherine was such a large contributor to her family. She was a funny, loving, generous and caring person. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her, but her stories and memories will be carried on by those who loved her. Katherine is survived by her sister, Adelaide V. Perry (Griffith), 2 nieces, Barbara P. Rosengarten of Havertown, PA and Helen V. Schory of Shillington, PA. as well as 4 grand nieces and 4 grand nephews.
