Obituary

Judith Rebecca Cox Cockrell Luciano, 83, of Melbourne died on August 8, 2023.

She was born in Lexington, North Carolina on February 15, 1940 to the late James A. Cox and Dorothy Mae Cox. She attended Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, NC and graduated from Rollins College with Honors.

Judy was predeceased by her loving daughter, Suzy Cockrell Kohel who passed away on March 8, 2023.

Judy is survived by her husband Lou Luciano; sister Sandra Cox Shaw and husband Steve; daughter Gaye Cockrell Kurmas and husband Paul; son Rick Cockrell and wife Diane; and Son in law, Eugene Kohel.

Judy's pride and joy were her four grandchildren: Samuel Kulvete (Justien Martin); Weston Kulvete (Mackenzie Brown); Ryan Kohel and Emily Kohel.

She is also survived by her nephew David (Erica), her great-nephew, Kale and her great-niece, Alana. She was so excited to meet them recently when they travelled from Hawaii.

Judy had a special bond with her long time friend, Marcie Ramirez.

Judy loved traveling. As a young person she traveled to Philadelphia to dance on "Dick Clark's American Bandstand". Her favorite place was Italy and she and her husband Lou made several trips there. She also loved cruising. One of her favorite trips was in 2007 when she took her entire family on a Caribbean cruise. As a high school and college student she loved being on the debate team.

Judy was very proud of her accomplishments working at Harris Corporation. After retirement she took up painting. She started with watercolor and then tried her hand at oil painting. Her family feels fortunate to have been gifted with many of her beautiful paintings.  A few years ago she created a cookbook of favorite family recipes and photos to gift to her children and grandchildren. Everyone loved it! It was entitled "That's the way my Mother did it". Those old and delicious recipes will be treasured for years to come.

Judy cared deeply for her family's well being and always offered advice, guidance and support. She loved having all of her family around her for family dinners and listening to us tell family stories.
