Josephine Brown Gates, 80, of Melbourne, FL was called to Heaven on February 14, 2026.

Josie was born to Margaret and Mal Brown on March 23, 1945, in London, England. She came through Ellis Island as a baby and grew up in Fort Pierce, FL. She graduated from Dan McCarty High School in 1963.

Josie was a photographer for Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, where she met the love of her life, Tom Gates. Josie and Tom married in 1968 and settled in West Melbourne in 1978 where they created a beautiful life of faith, family, and endless devotion.

Josie shined as bright as the sun, her beauty was captivating. She unconditionally loved and cared for her family with all her heart and soul. Josie was the greatest mother, sweetest Gigi, and the best wife. She had very dear friends whom she treasured. She was the finest southern cook and loved to decorate her home for all the holidays. She was a classy lady and always up for a good time; she had the most contagious laugh. Josie loved to vacation in Captiva Island with her family and cherished every moment together.

In Josie's final days, her wish was "I want to make sure everybody believes in Jesus, so we all will be together again one day."

Josie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Tom, her children Tiffany and Tommy (Dana), her grandchildren Raquel and Thomas, and her brothers Malcom (Sandy) and Lance. Josie is preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Mal, and her brother Val.

Josie was a gift from God, and every day with Josie was a celebration. A  gathering time to celebrate her life will begin at 1 PM with a service honoring her and continue until 3 PM, Saturday, February 28th at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home
