Obituary

Johnny Orland Serrano, 62, went to heaven on August 29, 2023. He was the companion of Ana Hernandez as they shared 14 loving years of their life together enjoying music, dancing, and family events.

Johnny was born in Bronx, New York, July 10, 1961 to Frank Serrano and Felicita Morales.  During his childhood, he attended school in Humacao, Puerto Rico. After graduation he enlisted into the U.S. Army; there he became a medic and excelled in this role. When Johnny was honorably discharged, he established residence in Salinas, California. Later, he decided to make Florida his home by relocating to Brevard County, Florida where he attended Brevard Community College. He obtained his certification as a Corrections Officer. Johnny served as a Corrections Officer for Brevard, Martin, and Orange counties and retired after 20 years of service. While working, he also attended the University of Central Florida, completing his B.A. He was an avid reader and loved to watch jeopardy every night.

His passion for music was unmistakable and known to all who loved him; he loved a musical challenge! For over 50 years he did what he loved most as he played the trombone. He performed for the enjoyment of all in salsa bands, orchestras, and in concerts nationwide, including in his birth home Puerto Rico. He will be remembered for his many performances in the Melbourne Municipal Band Branches. He loved to attend live performances such as local Broadway Shows, The Symphony, and Salsa concerts. One of his favorite past times was attending Latin Socials where he would dance the night away with his partner Ana.

He is survived by his only sister Myrna Serrano Aponte (Genaro) as well as his niece and nephew Sophia Flowers (Quentin) and Sergio Aponte. Johnny has been a friend, a mentor, a godfather, and musical advisor to many. He will be remembered for his loyalty, kindness, generosity, gentle nature, patience, and that peculiar sense of humor.  His trombone will forever echo in the hearts and minds of those he loved.
