IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Richard
Roberts
May 26, 1956 – October 23, 2021
John" Rick" Roberts, 65 of Melbourne, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 23, 2021.
Rick was born to the late James and Barbara Roberts on May 26, 1956, in Jacksonville, FL. He joined the USAF in 1973 where he met and married the love of his life, Dawn, on April 7, 1975, in Biloxi, MS. They welcomed their first daughter in 1978 while stationed in Bitburg, Germany. In November of 1980, they moved to Melbourne and welcomed two more daughters.
Rick's career was wide reaching. He started out in Nav Aids in the Air Force and then worked for Grumman at Kennedy Space Center. He also taught at Keiser University and pursued many challenges before he accepted a position with PEO Stri. In 2013, he retired from Civil Service to start his own company. However, Rick also remained active with recent positions at ICIO Inc. and, most recently, ECS as a Systems Engineer.
Rick was also very passionate about coaching basketball. He coached as much as he could from 1991 to 2019. He loved teaching girls the game and getting the best out of each team. He set a great example to those fortunate enough to know him. A Teacher, Coach, CEO, Devoted Husband, Father and Father-in-Law, A Perfect Grandfather, and A Good Man. We consider ourselves lucky and blessed to have spent time with him, and we're better for it.
Rick's greatest body of work is his family. With his devoted wife, Dawn, they raised three beautiful girls, Angela, Tiffani and Stephanie. There's nothing he wouldn't do for his girls, sons-in-laws, grandsons, and of course his dogs. We will miss his easy laughter, sage advice and great stories.
Rick was proceeded in death by his oldest daughter Angela McDonald and his sister, Bobby Jo Weeks. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Dawn, his children Tiffani (Tony) Schmidt and Stephanie (Kevin) Goins. Rick was also Best Friends with his grandsons, Gavin Schmidt and Adler Goins, who knew him best as "Dude" and "Bubba". He will be missed.
A service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, October 30th at: River Run Christian Church 1660 Croton Rd Melbourne, FI. 32935
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Manlius Pebble Hill School, Dewitt, NY. This is the private school his grandson Gavin attends. Please, we request that everyone wears a mask to protect children, a pregnant family member, and all others with comprised immune systems.
