John M. "Jack" Carney was born May 14, 1930 in Solvay, New York and died January 1, 2019 in Melbourne, Florida

He is preceded in death by his parents William M. Carney and Elizabeth Carney, his brothers Paul Carney (Elizabeth) Donald Carney (Adela) Richard Carney and Mike Carney.  Survivors include wife JoAnn, Sons Tim Carney (Theresa) Jeffrey Carney, Donnie Carney, daughters Suzan Shaw, Melody Hudson, eleven grand children.

Jack worked in the Space Industry for 40 years.  He worked with STL/TRW at Patrick AFB, TRW at Cocoa Beach and retired from Aerospace Corp at Cape Canaveral, FL.  He also worked for Storage Tech Labs in Melbourne for a short time.

Jack joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1958 and was a member of Post 4643, Satellite Beach FL. He served in the Korean War.  He held every position in the VFW from Post Commander to National Commander-in-Chief covering all the states.  During this time, he met many dignitaries including Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. He traveled to foreign countries around the world. He was Interim Director for the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, Michigan and Director for the VFW PAC Office located in Washington D.C. for six years. He was appointed to the National Cemetery Committee for six years.  Governor Askew appointed him to the Florida Veterans Advisory Council. He served on the Melbourne Auditorium Board in the 70's. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks, and Military Order of the Cooties.

A typical Irishman, he enjoyed sipping a few beers with his buddies, going to the Melbourne Greyhound Track and taking candy to the cashier girls and chatting with his friends.  Earlier days of enjoyment were Vegas and the Hard Rock in Tampa, FL.

Services will be held at Davis Seawinds Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Cape Canaveral National Veterans Cemetery at Scottsmoor, FL
