A light went out in this world on August 16, 2019 as John Fredrick Casner passed on to meet his Savior. With a smile for everyone, and a Tony-the-Tiger, "Grrreat" he brightened many a day.

John was born to the late Harry (Cas) Casner and Ruth Miller Casner on September 23, 1928 in Jersey Shore, PA. He grew up in Tamaqua, PA, graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1946 and received his BA in Psychology in 1950. Evelyn Hollis and he were married June 24, 1950, 69 years of life together. He is survived by his wife and children, CJ Casner, of Melbourne, FL and Bruce Casner, of Jeffersonton, VA.

John started his career at Acme Markets in Kingston, PA, but really hit his stride when he became a furniture design engineer with Craft Associates in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Among his accomplishments there were the first UL approved water bed and a production machine to make bean bag chairs. The furniture industry led them to live in various places in the Southeast, including Greensboro, NC and ending in Senatobia, MS.

In 1990 John and Evelyn retired to New Bern, NC. There he released his creativity, using his design, wood-working and problem-solving skills to enrich the community. Samples of his craftsmanship can be found all over historic Downtown New Bern and around Riverdale United Methodist.

In 2016 they moved to Victoria Landing in Melbourne, FL to be nearer to their daughter CJ. They loved the river view from their apartment and the many activities and loving care they received there.

No memorial service is scheduled at this time. John's ashes will be cast to the seas at the Point in Cape Hatteras, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in his honor to Hospice of St. Francis or Riverdale United Methodist Church in New Bern, NC
