Jerry E. Long of Palm Bay, received an opportunity to be one of God's supervisors on March 5, 2015, just days before his 75th birthday. He was born to the late Robert and Frances Long on March 10, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. He received his high school diploma from Dyer Central High School in Dyer, Indiana. After high school, Jerry enlisted in the United States Army. He was known for his tireless and hard work at Inland Steel Company in East Chicago and retired just short of 30 years. After retirement, he started a second career at Publix in Palm Bay, Florida, and worked there for almost 20 years.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Kimberly Long-Norton of Haines City, Florida, and was predeceased by his son Kevin Long. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Gavin and Madison Norton and many nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly. We all remain so humble, proud and blessed to be related to, and have known, Jerry Long. He was a wonderful father and a devoted grandfather. Jerry had a special place in the hearts of all his extended family and his many friends. Jerry was known for his walking through Palm Bay Colony, Melbourne Beach, and Turkey Creek Sanctuary, where he met and made even more friends.
Family will receive friends 12-1pm, Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home, Melbourne, FL, followed by a 1:00 pm memorial service.
Jerry requested no flowers; however, any donations made to Turkey Creek Sanctuary at 1518 Port Malabar Boulevard NE, Palm Bay, Florida 32905, will be appreciated by the family.
