Jeffery Lynn Mitchell passed away and went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 12, 2023.He was born on April 4, 1963 in Bedford, Virginia to Sarah Mitchell and the late Buddy Mitchell. He graduated from high school and received a bachelor's degree from Liberty University in psychology. He was married to Shelley Mitchell on July 26, 1991. They lived in Boonsboro, VA before relocating to Melbourne, FL in 1994.
Jeff grew up working on his family's farm with his father as well as his siblings Marshall Mitchell and Michelle Tompkins, until he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably for four years. After the Marine Corps, he worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad out of Roanoke, VA. During this time he felt a call from God for the ministry of the gospel which he readily obeyed. He enrolled at Liberty University and there he met and married the love of his life, Shelley. He worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company throughout college up until he was called to the ministry in Melbourne, Florida. He first served for seven years as a youth pastor at Harbor City Baptist Church, then he went on to be the youth and associate pastor for three years at First Baptist Church of Palm Bay. From there he was called back to be the senior pastor of Harbor City Baptist Church where he faithfully served for twenty-two years.
Jeff is survived by his mother Sarah Mitchell, brother Marshall Mitchell(Laverne Mitchell), sister Michelle Tompkins (Daryl Tompkins), children Micaiah Mitchell(Arielle Mitchell, Schaeffer McCary (Ryan McCary), Torrey Loftin(Corey Loftin), Elijah Mitchell (Monika Mitchell), Gideon Mitchell (Rachel Mitchell), Josiah Mitchell (Amanda Mitchell), Sophia Mitchell, Jesse Mitchell, Gabriel Mitchell, and Samuel Mitchell. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Harbor City Baptist Church to be distributed among the missionaries that they support. Anyone wishing to send the family a message or share a story is asked to send an email to:JeffnShell10@gmail.com
