Jean-Pierre Habets, 77, of Melbourne, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 15th with his wife by his side.
He was born to the late Julien and Elisabeth Habets (Caenen) on February 9, 1949 in Tienen, Belgium. He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering, completing courses at Point Park, Pennsylvania State University, and Tulsa University. He married Sandra Kay Sigafoes in 1971, and they lived in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, returning to Pennsylvania, until finally retiring to Florida in 2022.
For years, he participated actively in the United States Air Force Auxiliary – Civil Air Patrol (CAP) progressing in leadership at the local level and completing his tenure as the Pennsylvania Wing Commander in the late nineties.
Jean-Pierre and his wife Sandra owned and operated H&W Global Industries (H&W) in the Blairsville, PA area from 2002 to 2021.
Throughout his time with CAP and H&W, Jean-Pierre participated in numerous philanthropic and community service boards.
In retirement, he and his wife were active in the Space Coast Porsche Club of America and enjoyed their time traveling and going to events.
Jean-Pierre is survived by his wife of 54 years Sandra, children Todd (Michelle) Habets, of Sacramento, CA, and Chantal Townsend of Indialantic, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren Cole Townsend, Carly Townsend, and Kaitlyn Habets, siblings Jean-Michel (Carol) Habets of Bloomingdale, GA, Brigitte (Ken) Daniels of Melbourne, FL and Yves (Peggi) Habets of Pittsburgh, PA. He is preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Marie Paul Habets.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19th from 2-4 PM at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home at 560 Montreal Avenue in Melbourne. A service will be held immediately following the visitation
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org).
