Obituary

James Willis Winger died of COVID pneumonia and entered the Church triumphant on September 3, 2020.

Born on April 11, 1926 in Indiana, Pennsylvania, he was the child of Alberta and Charles Winger.

He shared love and was loved by many.  He was preceded in death by his wives Ruth Miller Winger and Nancy Elaine Winger.

Surviving him are his daughters Dr. Deborah Fegan, Dr. Cynthia Winger, Susan Winger, and Wendy Markell; and their husbands Edward Fegan, Larry Mazer, and Scott Markell; as well as his stepdaughters Carol Lucas, Karen Slover, Kathy Shaffer, and Kimberly Seale and their husbands Larry Lucas, William Slover, and Randy Seale.

He was grandfather to Jennifer Birkett and husband, Steve, William Fegan, James Fegan, Eric Fegan, Peter Januszkiewicz and wife, Katie, David Januszkiewicz, Elizabeth Januszkiewicz, Jessica Baker and her husband, Ben, Zachary Markell, Andrew Markell, Margaret Markell, Derick Lucas and wife, Jennifer, Caitlin Lucas, Amber Shaffer-Slover, Gabriel Seale, Eva Seale, and Benjamin Seale.

He was the great grandfather of 6.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William and Edward, and dear friends, Ron and Marge Brandon.

His life began in the church – baptized shortly after his birth, and his commitment to life of the church was central.  He loved the Lord and Lord's Church and put his faith into action.

In his lifetime, he was a faithful son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend.  His love and great concern for the welfare of his family was paramount, and his generosity was humbling.

Prior to graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Army and served in the 7 th -Army 343 rd Engineering Company.

He attended Penn State University graduating with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering that began a lengthy career in the railroad industry.  With his life-long friend Ron Brandon, he developed a company that resulted in several engineering patents.   His railroading expertise took him to various places throughout the world as an engineering consultant.

Following his retirement from the Chessie System Railroad, he began writing his life story and exposés on topics of various interest including baseball caps, lawyers, and underwear. His colorful language could sometimes baffle but almost always make one laugh or at least leave you scratching your head.

From early childhood on, he delighted in the outdoors spending endless hours in the woods of Pennsylvania.  He found pleasure in fishing, occasionally finding success under the wire.  His regular fall hunting trips often resulted in bagging a buck.  More than his own success, he found deep pleasure in sharing the wonder of nature with others.  Always delighting in time spent alone and with others at his hunting camps.

His wish, in his own words, was: When the Lord calls me, I want no tears.  I have had a wonderful life and suggest a tribute to be conducted at my hunting camp and remember the good times we have all had enjoying God's great fields, mountains, and streams.

He will be deeply missed by many and the celebration that he requested will be held at a time yet to be determined at the Tall Timber's Lodge in Hallton, Pennsylvania.
