IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James J
Malchisky
July 25, 1938 – March 19, 2025
James J. Malchisky, 86, of Indialantic, FL, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on March 19, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. A man of quiet strength, earned respect, and deep discipline, he uplifted those around him with his kindness, wisdom, and understated charm.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on July 25, 1938, to the late Julia Basala Malchisky and Joseph Malchisky, James—known affectionately as "Uncle Jimmy"—lived a life defined by intellectual pursuit, service, and joy. He was predeceased by his brother, William O. Malchisky Sr.
Despite a modest upbringing, James discovered his passion for music early and earned a degree in the field, followed by advanced degrees in education through the Sixth Year level. He began his career as a public school teacher and principal, eventually finding his true calling as a school principal within the Connecticut Department of Corrections. There, he dedicated himself to the education and rehabilitation of children until his retirement.
Upon retiring to Palm Bay, Florida, James discovered a new passion: ballroom dancing. Quickly becoming a beloved figure in the local dance community, he was affectionately nicknamed "Uncle Fred Astaire." His elegance and commitment led him to competitions, charity events, and countless evenings filled with joy, music, and friendship. He brought light to the dance floor and to the lives of those who shared it with him.
James is survived by his nephew, William O. Malchisky Jr. of Fort Pierce, FL; his niece, Michele J. (Gifford) Campbell of Salem, MA; their mother and his sister-in-law Carol Malchisky DePietro of Fort Pierce, FL; his adopted niece and nephew, Heidi Rae Arnold and Steven Polimeni of Indialantic, FL; his sister-in-law Linda Malchisky of Palm Bay; and several cousins across the U.S.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Ave, Melbourne, FL, beginning at 3:30 PM, followed by a memorial service at 4:30 PM. A celebration of life will take place that evening at 7:00 PM at Dancin' Dance Studio, 876 N Miramar Ave, Indialantic, FL 32903. A memorial in Connecticut will be held at a later date to honor his life among extended family and friends.
We will dearly miss Uncle Jimmy—his joy, his elegance, and the way he made everyone feel seen and valued. Thank you to all who have shared in his life and supported our family during this time of remembrance.
