Family and loved ones of James (Jim) Clyde Harber, of Melbourne FL announce with great sadness that he passed from this life to the next in the excellent care of VITAS Hospice on Sunday May 13, 2018 at 7:00 AM, after three years of increasingly invasive ill health.

A celebration of Jim's life service is planned for Wednesday, May 23 ^rd at 4:00 pm.  The service will be officiated by Chaplain Ron Fannin.  Following the ceremony an urn with our loved one's remains will be entrusted to his brother Bill who will ensure Jim is interred in the family cemetery in Dryden, VA.

James Clyde Harber was born July 1, 1941 at home in Dryden, VA.  He grew up in Dayton, OH, where he graduated from Fairview High School.  Jim served in the Air Force for 8 years.  His military service included time in Africa, Germany, Okinawa, and Japan.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  Next, Jim had a civil service career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) which included management of the facilities of the busiest airport in the nation, the Melbourne International Airport.  Retiring after 32 years of service, Jim spent his free time taking care of aged parents, helping neighbors or anyone in need – hence he became knowns as Gentleman Jim – and looking after his beautiful home, gardens and pool.

Jim is survived by his beloved companion Elva Summerlin, of Melbourne, FL, her daughter Leslie Tyrrell of Jacksonville, FL, and granddaughter Jenna Summerlin of Jacksonville, FL.  Jim is survived by his brother Bill Harber (formerly from Merritt Island) and fiancée, Penny Brackins, of Kodak, TN, and his sister Mattie Jane (Harber) Lawson of Kill Devil Hills, NC.  He is survived by five nephews, nine grand-nephews, eight grand-nieces and two great-grand-nephews.  Also, surviving are his uncle and aunt Gray (Joyce) Harber of Pennington Gap, VA.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Charles Olaf (Eloise Carroll) Harber of Melbourne FL.
