James (Jim) Gray Moore Jr., of Melbourne Beach, Fl. has begun his Journey into the Light after losing his battle with esophageal cancer on August 3, 2014. Born in Columbia, S.C. February 14, 1941 to James Gray Moore, Sr. and Hazel Hutto Moore, he attended school in Columbia graduating from Dreher High School and the University of South Carolina. After graduation from USC he was accepted into the Department of Defense Computer Program at Warner Robbins Air Force Base where he was one of the pioneers of computer programming. With the urge to travel the world he accepted a position with the U.S. Army in Zweibrucken, Germany for 4 years and traveled extensively in Europe. While there, he married on the Isle of Wight, UK and then returned to the States and settled in Poquoson, Va. with his family where he lived for 26 years working for the 1912th Computer System Group in the Langley Tactical Intelligence Software Division at Langley Air Force Base. Jim was an avid tennis player which began at a very young age in Columbia and while at Langley was often seeded 1 and 2 in his division and received the ranking of 4.0 in the United States Tennis Association. Upon moving to the Melbourne area in 1997 Jim continued to play tennis regularly at Fee Avenue Tennis Park until this past April when he had to give up the game, though he never gave up his passion for tennis or missed watching all the Tennis Opens. Shortly after his arrival in Florida he met Kate Fowkes, who became his best friend, traveling companion and love of his life. They continued that love for travel and life for the next 17 years traveling extensively. Jim leaves what he called his greatest accomplishments, his 2 daughters Sharon Burns (Chris) and Alison Wagner (Will) and four beautiful grandchildren Evelyn and Audrey Burns and Dylan and Anna Wagner, as well as his sister, Jonnie Tiller and nephew John Tiller and his best friend Kate. A memorial will be held at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Ave. (Eau Gallie) on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. with a gathering of family and friends following the service for a celebration of Jim's life. Family requests donations to be made to a favorite charity of choice in lieu of Flowers.
