Jacquelyn Rauton Gregory, more dearly known to her family and friends as "Jackie", passed quietly and peacefully Saturday morning, March 18, after battling a long-term illness, at the age of 83. She was a loving mother to two children and a widow. Jackie was born and raised in the gorgeous southern hills in the Piedmont of South Carolina. Mid-life she later moved with her family to Florida where she enjoyed the warm sunny weather and beautiful beaches.
Professionally, she was known as a bit of a trailblazer in STEM as she was one of the first women software engineers in her field. She also proudly helped monitor some of the historical Space Shuttle launches on the Space Coast during the eighties and the nineties.
She was a passionate believer in education as she graduated with a Bachelor of Science with honors as a double math and computer science major from Lander University. Additionally, she graduated with highest honors with a Masters Degree from Florida Institute of Technology (F.I.T.).
Jackie also balanced her work life and learning with her other joys. She loved spending time with her family, playing piano, exhibiting her green thumb by growing beautiful plants and flowers, along with crafting, decorating, and baking up her favorite, delicious pie and cake recipes for her family and friends. Those that knew her knew she also enjoyed watching the grand slam tennis tournaments every year along with cheering on her favorite college football teams each season. And one of her biggest joys, close to her heart, was her love for animals., especially her own little fur babies, her doggies at home.
One of her common quotes comes to mind now, one she would always say and believed when she heard of someone passing away, she would kindly state, " they are now in a much better place". We, her family and friends, rest knowing that Jackie is now in that "much better
place", with her loving God and loved ones. "I love you Mom, and I will miss you dearly."
Jackie is survived by her son, Scott Gregory. She was predeceased by her daughter, Leslie D. Gregory, and her husband Tommy G. Gregory.
Respecting Jackie's wishes, her family has chosen to have a simple, private, service with close family and friends. Your sincere sympathies, thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated.
Instead of flowers, Jackie would ask you to make a donation or adopt a loving pet at your local animal or pet rescue.
