Iluminada "Lucy" Aviles Vicente was born to Victoriano Aviles Sanchez and Evarista Vicente Aviles on December 27, 1927 in Cayey, Puerto Rico. As the youngest of 8 children, Lucy's early life was economically difficult. Attending school was secondary; she worked on the land and in a tobacco factory in Puerto Rico until she moved to Brooklyn, New York in the 1950s. She soon met and married her husband, Lionel Francis and became a stay-at-home mom. Lucy was the beloved matriarch and protector to her family of 3 boys, and a caretaker for several of her family and friends' children. She avidly attended St. Barbara's church in Bushwick, loved God and always said a daily prayer for her family. She always made time to call her nieces, nephews and friends to make sure they had a great day. She relished having Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner parties with her family where there was always, along the traditional turkey dinner, Spanish specialties such as "arroz con dulce", "pasteles" and "coquito". In 2014, Lucy, Lionel, and their son Alfred his family moved to Melbourne, where she lived until her passing.

Lucy was predeceased by her parents, her son, Lionel Jr., her 4 brothers and 3 sisters, and Lionel, her husband of 50 years. Lucy died on October 27, 2022 at St. Francis Reflections Lifestage Care. Lucy is survived by her 3 sons Alfred, Jose and his wife Beth, Victor and his wife Yvonne, her five grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.

Services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 3 rd and Friday, Nov 4 th at 2 – 4 pm at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, 560 Montreal Avenue, Melbourne, Florida 32935. Mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church at 1pm on Saturday, Nov 5th . Interment will be at Florida Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
