Hope Melhado Hines, 78, of Palm Bay, FL, passed away peacefully on March 11th, 2023, with family by her bedside. She was born in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica, to the late Linnette and Cornelius Melhado on July 25, 1944. Hope graduated from Excelsior High School in Kingston, JA, in 1961 and traveled to Watford, England, to complete her training as a nurse. She earned her BSc. from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY, in 1976.

Hope had a long and distinguished career as a nurse, working primarily in the neonatal ICU. She often served as a mentor for new nurses and took this role very seriously. Nurses who trained with her have cited her as a significant influence on their career.

Hope married Eric Hines in 2008 and retired from nursing in 2009. The couple moved from New Jersey to Florida in 2014, where they became a part of a supportive community of friends and neighbors.

Hope is survived by her daughter Lisa Melhado, of Brooklyn, NY; her husband Eric, of Palm Bay; her brother Kenneth Melhado, of Toronto, ON, Canada; her extended family; and many friends she made along the way.

A service will be held on Tuesday, March 21st at 10am in the funeral chapel at the Davis Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory. Her remains will be interred at the Fountainhead Funeral Home & Memorial Park immediately after the service. A repast will be held at the Bayside Lakes Clubhouse from 12pm to 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Hope's name.
