IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen Kohn
Bloch
December 17, 1938 – November 26, 2025
Helen Kohn Bloch, daughter of Anton and Elsie Kohn, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Helen was born in Ridgely, MD and grew up near the Chesapeake Bay (on both eastern and western shores). Helen graduated from Easton (Maryland) High School in 1956, then worked as a bank teller, and occasionally traveled to Annapolis. It was during one of these trips to Annapolis that Helen met her soul mate and the love of her life, Vern, to whom she was happily and blissfully married for 62 years. They loved each other unconditionally, for better and for worse, in sickness and in health, until death did them part when Vern preceded her in death on October 8, 2021. Helen and Vern are now together again.
Helen stayed home to raise three children while Vern had a successful career in the US Navy. This was in the age before FaceTime, so when he was on sea duty, she was on her own (and sometimes the two boys would test her patience). But Helen was a tough Navy wife, and handled whatever life threw at her. It is widely known that nails WISH they were as tough as she was.
Helen reentered the (paid) work force when her youngest child was a junior in high school, first working as an office manager and later as a security specialist in buildings that don't have windows.
Helen and Vern owned and operated the Palm Bay Orchid Range, where they made many lifelong friends, from 1991 to 2004. Helen was active in (and a life member of) the Brevard County Orchid Society and served as its Secretary for many years.
The most important thing in Helen's life was family. She treasured all family time, especially the family adventures to the Florida Keys and Hawaii. Helen and Vern traveled extensively during their retirement years, with vacations to six of the seven continents.
Helen is survived by three children (son Jeff and wife Dayna Bloch, daughter Laurie Watson, son Greg and wife Kim Bloch), two grandchildren (Thomas Stearns, Katie Bloch), four great grandchildren (Emma Beavers, Hailey Beavers, Logan Beavers, and Clayton Stearns), and one brother (Tony and his wife Judy Kohn).
A Catholic funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 11am at St Joseph's Catholic Church, 5330 Babcock St NE, Palm Bay, FL. Helen will be interred with Vern at Arlington National Cemetery on a future date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Salvation Army or the Brevard County Orchid Society.
