Helen Louise Alexander, 74, died peacefully in her sleep at home in Indian Harbour Beach, FL on Tuesday, March 31, 2015.
She was born to the late John Paul and Edna Isabel Fitzpatrick on December 13, 1940 in North Platte, NE. Ater graduation from St. Patrick's High School she relocated to Alexandria, VA where she worked as a dental assistant. There she met her future husband, William Alexander. They wed in 1966 and shared his military life for 27 years, living in Virginia, Japan, Nebraska, and finally, Florida. Always a talented seamstress, Helen found her true passion in quilting during the last decades of her life, producing numerous heirloom quilts and forming lifelong friendships while working with local groups who share a love for the art and sponsor sewing programs for the disadvantaged. She also fostered a fondness for sewing and quilting with her daughter and grand- daughters who knew her as "Goatie."
She is survived by her husband, William; son, John of Port St. John; daughter, Brigid Grace of Indian Harbour Beach, and three granddaughters as well as sister, Rhea Merriman (Tuscon, AZ), brother Thomas Fitz- patrick (Mobile, AL), and brother Paul Fitzpatrick (North Platte, NE).
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother. She is gone from our world but lives on in our hearts and memories.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge at 1049 Julia Dr., Melbourne, FL on April 12, from 1-4pm, with a short service at 1:30 pm.
