Harrison Goetz Demgen was born in Schenectady, N.Y. on July 23, 1926 to the late Harry and Bertha Demgen. It was here that he took all of his schooling starting from grade school through college. He played basketball for his church (Zion Lutheran) in a league and at the YMCA. He and Marian met at a soda shop. Later, he and his friends came to visit her house during a WW II black out where he played the piano (Smoke Gets in Your Eyes!). It was at a church league basketball game that Marian met her future in-laws. They were married June 14, 1947 at Broadway United Methodist, Marian's home church, after his military duty.

During WWII, Harry enlisted as a V12 - While going to school at Union College in Schenectady, NY. He served in the Navy from 1944-1946 and then returned to college. As a mid-shipman, he was on the U.S.S. Louisville in Guam. That ship was requisitioned for the surrender of Japan and so Harry had a 30-day vacation in Guam, so to speak. Following that, he served in Jinsen, Korea and Shanghai, China, as a port director. He retired as a 2nd lieutenant.

Back home, he married and graduated from college with a Master's degree in Education. He took a position with Connecticut General Life Insurance Company in Hartford, Conn. He had a 25-year career there and then returned to his alma mater, Union College as Director of Alumni Affairs for 12 years. While working in CT, they raised their family in Simsbury. He was very involved in church, music and community singing groups. Harry and Marian were part of starting four different churches.

He "retired" to Melbourne (Augusta Village, Suntree) but continued working as an agent selling Long Term Care Insurance. His hobbies throughout the years included playing piano, golf, making lists, church work and choir (a great tenor), bridge, celebrating his German heritage, and gardening - in particular growing gladiolas. His favorite sports teams were the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and the New York Giants football team. In retirement, he and Marian enjoyed many cruises, traveling and two tours with the church to Israel and Germany.

He is survived by his loving wife of exactly 70 years, Marian; son Paul (Lou Ann) of Colorado; Jeffrey (Jennifer) of Texas; Barbara (Jon) Frisbie of Connecticut and Betsy (John) Grupe of Connecticut. Grandchildren: Erick Demgen, Drew Demgen, Matthew Demgen, Lori Lawley, Teri Salazar, Brian Demgen, Chad Frisbie, Jena Frisbie, Kendra Frisbie, Sarah Grupe and Christopher Grupe. Their great grandchildren: Derick, Tyson, Adele, Ariana, Conor, MacKenzie, Barrett, and Declan.

Worship services will be held on Monday, Sept. 25 at 4:00 at Faith Viera Church followed by Military Honors and interment in the church Columbarium. Donations may be made to Faith Viera Church.
