Obituary

Harold "Ed" Rittenhouse 74 of Melbourne, Florida passed away on Thursday February 27, 2020 with his wife Cindy at his side.

He was born in Elmira, NY to the late Byron and Margaret Rittenhouse, on January 19, 1946. He graduated from Elmira Southside High in 1964. He served in the US Army in both Germany and Vietnam.  He and his wife Cindy married in January of 1979, and they lived in Elmira and then Pine City, NY.  He worked in restaurants for many years, was even on the training team to open new restaurants.  He worked for many years driving around the northeast picking up milk samples and delivering them to the quality control lab. After a time he started his own business doing the same thing, and employed several workers.  He was an avid hat collector and had over 3000 hats all donated. He and his wife retired and spent much of their time in Florida.

He was predeceased by his son James Edwin in 1987. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Cindy and their sons Jared Verity and Chad Rittenhouse of Elmira and their grandchildren Erik Verity of Syracuse, Sasha Verity of West Palm Beach, Elizabeth Verity of Elmira, and Lilith Kramer of Elmira. He is also survived by sister-in-laws Debbie Lord of Windsor CT and Pam Butters of Elmira, nephews Aaron Lord of Phoenix, AZ, Brian Lord of Windsor, CT, and Joshua Radford of Elmira, and niece Beth Butters of Alfred Station, NY.  Also survived by 3 special friends he always considered nephews Bobby (Debbie) Wright, Frankie Wright, and Jon (Tiffany) Wright all of Melbourne.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home March 2nd at 4 pm.
