Palm Bay

Gilbert R. Townsend, 86, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Palm Bay, FL. Born on October 10, 1927 in Middletown, OH, he was the beloved son of the late Omer and Bessie Cook-Townsend. Gilbert retired from Armco Steel Corporation (AK Steel) in 1985. He resided in Trenton, OH, where he enjoyed most of his golden years. In early 2014 he relocated to Palm Bay, FL to be with his son and family. He was an avid fisherman and Cincinnati Reds fan. Gilbert will be remembered as a joyful and generous man who truly appreciated the gift of life. Gilbert leaves memories to be cherished by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty; son, Russ (Melissa); granddaughter, Amanda; sister, Deannie Dunlap (Chuck); and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Family will greet friends from 12p.m. to 1p.m. on Saturday, June 28th at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home in Melbourne, FL with a Celebration of Gilbert's Life to follow at 1p.m.
