IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerard Joseph
Shea
March 15, 1943 – April 10, 2021
Gerard Joseph Shea, age 78, left us on 10 April 2021. Known by many names (Jerry, Dad, B, Coach, Mr. Shea), he was an integral member of the Melbourne community for more than 45 years after relocating from Long Island, NY to keep an eye on his mom. Jerry and his wife of 55 years, Ceil, raised 5 children and adored their 9 grandchildren. A former Marine who never lost his zeal for working out, Jerry loved being active, whether it was on the exercise trail at Wickham Park or in a spin class being challenged by his favorite instructors. Jerry was the last door-to-door milkman in Melbourne who never knew a stranger partly because he was involved in everything! He was a coach for youth baseball, soccer and basketball, a homeroom Dad, a Girl Scout troop leader, a Brevard County public school bus driver, a fourth degree Knight of Columbus, a minister to the sick and bereaved for Ascension Catholic Church, a volunteer at the local thrift store and Holmes Regional Hospital, and a hospice volunteer for more than 30 years. Jerry was easy to spot because of that infectious smile and twinkle in his eye. Jerry's greatest love was his family with whom he created precious memories up until his last breath. Breakfast at the beach to watch the sunrise, ice cream as a meal instead of a dessert, jumping the waves, reading for the love of reading, listening to B's music, dancing, plenty of teasing, laughing and so much more. We will celebrate Jerry's life at 11 am on Saturday, 15 May 2021 at Ascension Catholic Church. If you would like to join us, please wear bright colors as we will be celebrating a life well lived and a man well loved. A man who lived his life faith forward every day. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Jerry by making someone smile – take your family to the beach for the sunrise or to a musical, surprise your wife with flowers just because, treat your grandchildren to ice cream, donate blood at the local blood bank, volunteer at your church or make a donation to your local hospice. Above all else, always remember him with a smile.
