Obituary

Geraldine Marie Smith, known to most by Gerry, had a kind and loving soul. She was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and so much more. Gerry passed away at her home in Melbourne, FL after suffering a stroke on January 2, five days before her 91st birthday.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on January 7, 1933 to Art W. and Amber H. Larsen, Gerry was the oldest of five siblings. During her time as a student at Miami Edison High School, she met Bryan Allen Smith, a boy one year her senior, who found himself irrevocably love-stricken by her. She was 16 when they met. Bryan and Gerry waited until after her graduation to marry on June 30, 1951.

After graduation, Gerry became a legal secretary and worked for Jack Philbin, producer for the Jackie Gleason Show. She diligently worked for Mr. Philbin for many years, up until she and her family moved to her birth state of New York in the mid 1970's.

Gerry was a loving mother to three children. She was an adoring grandmother to six, and a great-grandmother to three more. Due to distance and oceans, Gerry had to use video calling to see and talk to her great-grandchildren, an activity in which she delighted. One of these great-grandchildren Gerry had the blessing of meeting in person when her granddaughter brought young Sigrin Ros to visit from Iceland for Christmas 2022.

As an active member of the Lutheran Church, Gerry donated her time and resources towards God and towards her beliefs, and to the community of people that shared them with her. She held regular Bible study for years and happily assisted with numerous church functions.

Gerry and Bryan traveled the world, a lot of the time accompanied by her sister Joan and Joan's husband Rob. Gerry made memories with the love of her life for 70 years, until his passing on July 7, 2019. Their last and favorite trip was to Israel, fulfilling a bucket list dream. Gerry often said how happy she was that they had made it to Israel.

After Bryan's death, Gerry remained close with her family, especially her sister Joan, who together could only have been properly described as inseparable.

Gerry's many hobbies throughout her life included fishing, golf, playing cards and other games, reading, crafting, gardening, and sewing. She will always be remembered for her attentiveness to her family, for her commitment to her Faith, and for her radiant smile and joyous laughter.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her brother Art W. Larsen (2011), her brother-in-law Dwight "Rob" K. Robinson (2019), her husband Bryan A. Smith Sr. (2019), and her son Mark C. Smith (2023). She is survived by her sister Joan H. Robinson; her brothers William "Bill" H. Larsen and Carl C. Larsen; her son Bryan A. Smith Jr.; her daughter Victoria L. Maynard; her grandchildren Bryan Allen Smith III, Halla Marie Smith, Vasilios "Billy" D. Zimarakos, Peter A. Zimarakos, Alicia Marie Maynard, and Amber Smith; her great-grandchildren Elisabet Mai Smith, Margret H.H. Smith, and Sigrin Ros Antonsdottir; and many nieces and nephews.

Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 20 at Faith Viera Lutheran Church, 5550 Faith Dr, Rockledge, FL 32955.
