We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, George William Thompson on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida.  Born September 12, 1934 in Whitmire, South Carolina to the late Clyde and Florence Thompson, the youngest of seven children.  George was raised in the middle of the Sumter National Forest where he spent time friends and family, fishing, playing baseballand working on hot rods.  Upon graduating from Whitmire High School in 1953, George enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country faithfully for 26 years.  After his retirement in 1977, George continued to work in the Aerospace industry with Harris Corporation, retiring in 1993.  George met his wife and lifelong best friend, Lieselotte Godau, while stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in Kaislerslautern, Germany.  After marrying in October 1954, they moved back to the United States.  In 1958, George and Lieselotte welcomed their first child, Michael George, followed in 1960 by their son David Lee, and then in 1964 they welcomed their daughter Jennifer Diann.  George enjoyed working on antique cars, woodworking, Nascar Racing, traveling, and spending time with his family.  He had a quick sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and the ability to make others feel at ease when they talked with him.  George is survived by his son Michael George Thompson (Susan) of Simi Valley, California; son David Lee Thompson (Racheal) of Orlando, Florida; and daughter Jennifer Diann Grason (Craig) of St. Cloud, Florida; six grandchildren Sean Michael Thompson of Simi Valley, California; Dylan Matthew Grason of St. Cloud, Florida; Brandon Tyler Grason, Shane David Thompson of Orlando, Florida; Shelby Hannah Grason of St. Cloud, Florida; Dax Nicholas Thompson of Orlando, Florida; and sister Ruth Welch of Easley, South Carolina.  He was predeceased by his loving wife Lieselotte Godau Thompson, sisters Gertie Mae Pearson, Helen Lewis, Kathleen Shields, Luvenia Ammons, brother Albert Thompson.  George will be laid to rest at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida with full military honors at a later date.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Veterans For America in honor of George William Thompson.
