George Joseph Giraitis, age 100, passed away Friday January 30, 2015 in Palm
Bay, FL.

He was born on November 19, 1914 in Hartford, CT to Joseph and Mary Giraitis and was of Lithuanian descent.

He worked for Hartford Special, Pratt & Whitney, and finally Fenn Manufacturing as a process engineer, until retirement.

As a youth, his baseball team was invited to attend a Philadelphia A's -Yankee game in New York. He managed to meet the likes of Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Jimmie Fox and get a baseball signed by several of the players. As a young man, he played basketball in a city league and competed against a young Harlem Globetrotters team several times.

He loved to fish when he was at his shore home in Black Point, CT. He also loved to go clamming, lobstering, and crabbing which he shared with his grandchildren.

He learned how to analyze and choose stocks that usually did well and kept at it well into his 90's.

He was known for his sense of humor, good nature, and the fact that he never met a stranger. He loved to talk to everyone and share his wisdom.

He moved to Miami Lakes, FL in 1967 then to Pembroke Pines, West Palm Beach, Ft. Pierce, and finally to the Melbourne area.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty, and his beloved wife of 68 years, Anne Langhans Giraitis. He is survived by his daughters, Gayle Durocher of Palm Bay and Karen Spear (Michael) of Bristol, TN; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.

There will be a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Grace, Palm Bay, Fl on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 1:00 pm and graveside services with interment of ashes later at St. Anne Catholic Church in Bristol, VA.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of St. Francis, Titusville, FL or St. Jude's Hospital, Memphis, TN or St. Anne's Catholic Church/School, Bristol, VA.
