George David Cox, 68, of Melbourne, passed away Sunday, April 23 with his family by his side.

He was born to Evelyn and Winson Cox on May 13, 1948 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They relocated to Miami, Florida when George was 9 months old. He resided in Florida ever since. George graduated from Melbourne High School in 1966. He married his wife Patricia Lynn Gaskin on March 27, 1971 in Indialantic, Fl. They lived together in Palm Bay, West Melbourne, Vieira and Sebastian for 46 years.

George was an electrical contactor and Cox Electric went into business in 1974. His business serviced Brevard and Indian River counties until 2008. George loved to play team sports which started with his Melbourne High Football years. George also played in city leagues in flag football, softball, bowling, and jai alai. He also helped coach pop warner football and little league baseball. George was inducted into the Florida Flag Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

George loved the ocean. Fishing and diving offshore of Sebastian inlet was a regularity. George was able to take many fishing trips to almost all of the islands of the Bahamas. He also loved to take regular family trips to the Florida Keys.

George is survived by his wife Patricia, of Sebastian; his daughter Kimberley Cox Kushner, of West Melbourne; and son George R Cox, of Avondale, Georgia. He is also survived by five grand children: Madison, Grace, Emma, Peyton and George Riley.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 28th from 1-3pm, at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 3pm on Friday, April 28th after visitation. A celebration of life will be held after the Funeral service around 4pm at the Kingery Pavilion: 3575 Hield Road
Melbourne, FL 32904. All are welcome to join us for food and stories. Guests are welcome to bring a desert if you like. Attire is casual, Come as you are.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made St Jude Children's Hospital. George hated the thought of children having to struggle with cancer and supported St Jude's mission.
