George E. Blackett, 93, of West Melbourne, passed away on February
28, 2020, at The Palms Rehabilitation Center, Palm Bay.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, March 7th, 2020 at
Wesley United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by DavisSeawinds Funeral Home.
George was born in Albany, NY to Ruth & Charles Blackett on
November 22, 1926. He married Marilyn Mayell on April 4, 1953 in
Cohoes, NY. He had a long career in insurance sales and in retirement
he worked as a retail merchandiser. He was a veteran of World War II
and served in the United States Marine Corp. He and Marilyn were
volunteers at the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts for
25 years. They also volunteered as drivers for Brevard Aging Matters
Senior TranServe, were members of the Good Sam's No Frills
Camping Club, the Brevard County Chapter of New York Club,
Brevard County Chapter of the AARP, and supporters of many
charities.
George is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn.
George is survived by his children, Karen Blackett, Kevin & Lisa
Blackett and Kimberly & Tim Doucette; Grandchildren, Joshua
Blackett, Justin & Cady Blackett, Elise & Matthew Sheck and Tim
Doucette, Jr. and Great-Granddaughter, Harper Blackett.
Memorials may be given to The Promise in Brevard. The family of
George wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of the Palms
Rehabilitation & Health Care, Pastor Ryan Hall and our friends of
Wesley United Methodist Church.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday March 7, 2020 at Wesley United Methodist Church at 1 pm.
