Gene Vignes, 92, of Melbourne, Florida died Sunday, March 21, 2021.

He was born to the late Roger and Margaret Vignes on March 1, 1929 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. 
He was the second of six children and the oldest of four brothers. He was predeceased by his brother, Roger. 
He was married to the late Jean Vignes and they lived together in Elizabeth, Hazlet, and Middletown, New Jersey. 
He later retired and they moved to Tamarac, Margate, Keystone Heights, and Melbourne, Florida.  Gene and Jean engaged
 with all of his siblings, taking them to visit beautiful gardens and historic places and just enjoying each other's company.

He loved hikes in nature and strolls in gardens. His particular favorites were Longwood Gardens and Winterthur. 
he bought his first home, he devoured books and magazines on organic gardening. The entire yard became one 
big flower bed with a few patches of grass, together with scattered trees, bushes and various slate paths.
Gene worked at a chemical plant that made flavors and fragrances for about twenty years. 
The chemicals eventually made him sick so he left and tried the sales profession. 
He turned out to be a natural and sold carpeting and fencing, sometimes taking years off from work to enjoy life.
 He also studied to be an artist and received a number of commissions to paint landscapes and portraits. 
His favorite portrait was the one he painted of his wife, Jean, painted from a photograph when she was very young and beautiful.
 In his final days, he liked to look at this portrait before he went to sleep and then dreamed that he was with her. 
He dreamed an entire world / heaven and would talk about it at breakfast. Jean was the most important person in his life. 
She also bore him a son, who was very important to both of them throughout their lives.

Gene is survived by his son, Jeff Vignes; his brothers: Robert and William Vignes; his sisters: Irene Wilchek and Claire LaRocco; 

and his nieces and nephews: Jeanne Vollmann, Barbara Ann Durnien, Robert Vignes, Kerry Bray, Jennifer Danberry, Jeff Munson, 
and David Munson.
