IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fredrick (Rick)
Leon Dillen
August 30, 1942 – August 5, 2024
Fredrick (Rick) Dillen, 81, passed away on August 5, 2024, at Vitas Healthcare. He was the husband of Nancy Baur Dillen; they shared 50 years of life and marriage together.
Born in Harrisburg, PA, Rick Dillen was the son of Frederick and Eva Dillen. He graduated Kutztown State College in Art Education. After college, Rick served 5.5 years in the US Navy where he worked for Admiral Zumwalt, head of Navy Operations in Vietnam during the war. After the Navy, Rick was employed in various capacities as a teacher, commercial artist, draftsman and finally at Florida Power and Light (FPL) where he worked for seventeen years as an Engineer/Service Planner.
After retiring from FPL, Rick volunteered on the Olde Eau Gallie Riverfront Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Committee for the City of Melbourne, helping the Eau Gallie area gain Main Street status in about 2010; he also evaluated grant requests and advanced many key initiatives with the Community Foundation for Brevard.
Rick enjoyed writing Haiku poetry, developing his calligraphic skills, creating assemblage sculptures, working in the yard, hiking, kayaking, bicycling, reading, participating in the Second Monday Men's Book Club, and listening to chamber and classical music. He will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, great sense of humor, wit, rational thinking, wordsmith ability, and artistic skills as a designer, craftsman, and creative problem solver. Always willing to help others, Rick was concerned for and generous in his community. He loved life.
Rick is survived by his wife, Nancy and his older brother, Ralph Dillen, Mechanicsburg, PA. He was predeceased by his parents.
A Celebration of Life is being planned. Time and place will be announced
