Francis (Frank) Finneran "The Candy Man", of Melbourne, FL, formally of
Uniondale, NY. Has passed away surrounded by his family to be reunited with
"the love of his life" on Thursday, May 03, 2018. Frank was born on August 25th
,
1930 in Manhattan NY and was the child of the late Martin and Beatrice
Finneran.
Frank was married to his love, Arleen for 55 years. Cherished father "Papa-Bear"
of Kathleen (Anthony) Laurendi, Susan (Donald) Marra, Michael Finneran and
Steven (Barbara) Finneran; adored Poppy to Cody, Kayleen, Maegan, Kimberly,
Kelly, Shawn, Cameron, Briana, Julia and Shannon; loving brother of the late
Martin Finneran, beloved uncle to Carol, Debra, Diane, Robert and Mary-Grace,
Kevin, Brian, Eileen, Trisha, Kelly and sister-in-law, Patricia.
Frank was a devoted and dedicated father and husband, whose work ethic was
incomparable, which enabled him to provide for his family. Frank worked two fulltime
jobs, one for Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY for over 30 years, which
afforded his children an opportunity to obtain a college education and a second
job for the Uniondale School District.
Frank lived for his family and enjoyed making memories. Nothing gave him more
pleasure than fishing with his grandchildren, as well as watching them dance,
play soccer, and attend school functions. He also thoroughly enjoyed his weekly
shopping trips followed by haircuts, and playing pool with his son Steven, and
visiting his favorite local restaurants. He cherished his Thursday date nights with
his first born, Katie, watching their favorite television shows, and being spoiled
with her home cooked meals. Dad could always count on his daughter Susan to
"nurse" him back to health and to help guide and protect him through all of his
health issues. His son Michael made him so proud by following in his footsteps
working for Hofstra University, thereby also providing the same educational
opportunity to his daughters.
Frank enjoyed listening to the radio, especially Irish music, and had a love for
reading historical and political literature. Frank made friends everywhere he went,
by simply being kind. He loved to share his stories and hand out his "strawberry
candies" to everyone he met. His favorite saying was "Top of the morning to
you… and the rest of the day to yourself" in response.
Frank proudly served in the U.S Marine Corp, Semper Fi from October 1951 to
October 1953 during the Korean War and was a proud member of the Weapons
Company. Upon his death, at his bedside, he was presented with an official
folded American flag and a Marine Corp ring, presented to him by a
representative from the Armed Forces.
Dad will be missed and loved forever and we take comfort in knowing he is with
our mom, and both are watching over all of us.
A celebration of his life will take
place this Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 3050 N Highway A1A, Indialantic, FL 32903 at 11 AM. The family will greet starting at 10:30 up until the time of the Mass. Following the service please join the family at Beef O Bradys, Lake Washington Crossing for fellowship.
