Eugene Maier, age 92, of Melbourne, FL passed away August 16, 2023. Eugene, known by his friends and family as Gene, is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Marjorie & Louanne, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Gene was born in Queens, NY but was raised in Brooklyn, New York. He met, Margaret, who would become the love of his life while attending Midwood High School. He then attended school to become a Licensed Funeral Director. They were married on May 6, 1951. He would later start his own Mortuary business, which he proudly ran for over 25 years. As they raised their family in Brooklyn, Gene and Marge were active in a variety of social clubs, most notably the "Wedded Band". It was in this group that they would make some of their closest lifelong friends.
In 1987, Gene and Marge moved to a community in Toms River, NJ. Gene began working at the local community hospital as an assistant to the Medical Examiner. He later joined the local Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where he proudly served his community for several years.
Gene and Marge were also active in the local chapter of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks while living in New Jersey.
In 2003, the couple once again relocated to Melbourne, FL. Gene and Marge quickly began making new friends as they got settled into their new community.
Gene and Margaret were celebrated 72 years of wedded bliss on May 6, 2023. Together, the couple raised four wonderful children and helped raise seven adoring grandchildren. Gene had incredible level of compassion, kindness, and patience that impacted the lives of those that had the honor of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at the Lakewood Village Clubhouse, 3171 Hanson Ave, Melbourne, FL 32901 on Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to either the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL or Presbyterian Church of the Good Shepard in Melbourne, FL.
