Elizabeth M Gillen (née Ballweg) 1914-2018. Elizabeth "Sis" Gillen passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 103, Saturday April 21st in Cocoa Beach, FL. She was born November 6, 1914 in Jamaica Estates, Long Island, NY and lived in Vero Beach, for over 40 years. "Sis" as her friends called her, graduated from Our Lady of Mercy Academy where she was the Art Editor for the school publications and received her Associates degree from Long Island University, Brooklyn, NY.
She began her career as a Credit Manager for Novia Candy Co. (founded by her late father John J. Ballweg). Later in life "Sis" had a very successful career as an antique dealer and real estate broker in Manhasset, NY. "Sis" was a remarkable woman with countless skills and talents in the Arts ranging from Brick Laying to Water Color. Elizabeth was predeceased by parents and siblings, husband William and son Desmond. She leaves behind wonderful memories to her daughter Susan and grandchildren Crystal, Lauren, Kelly, Scott, Liam, Sean and Kyle and great grandchildren Olivia, Secilia, Sean and Cobin.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Tuesday 5/1 @10am located at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 500 Iris Ln, Vero Beach, FL 32963 . Donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Vero Beach.
