Westcott Windle, Jr
October 28, 1932 – March 29, 2023
Major Edward "Ted" Windle, Jr. (USAF, retired), died March 29, 2023 at age 90 in Melbourne, FL. He is survived by his wife Patricia B. Windle, daughter Roni Windle, and son Edward "Tod" Windle III. His sons, Reid D. Windle and Joseph F. Windle passed in previous years. He is also survived by his granddaughter Brooke Beshears , grandson Jackson Windle and sister-in-law Iris Baird.
Ted was from Signal Mountain, Tennessee. While in elementary school he lost many of his classmates and friends to the polio epidemic. He was a paper boy from 10-16yo for the Chattanooga Times, an Ochs-Sulzberger newspaper. During this time he also worked for Alexian Brothers Elder Care. He used his earnings to pay his own tuition to Baylor School for Boys. Ted won scholarships to Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, but instead took his nomination to the Naval Academy. He graduated from the Naval Academy in June of 1954. He then served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1974. He took flight training in Laredo, Texas. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His service took him to Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and to Patrick Air Force Base, Florida. While at PAFB (now know as Patrick Space Force Base), he was in Mercury Control and served with the Air Force Eastern Test Range. From 1969- 1970, he served as Base Commander of Grand Bahama Missile Tracking Station. During his time of service, Edward was recognized these accolades:
