OBITUARY FOR EDWARD DUNHAM

Edward Dunham, a resident of Melbourne, FL passed away May 14, 2017 at the age of 77. He was born in Springfield, MA on Dec 26, 1939. He graduated from Classical High School in Springfield Massachusetts, Class of 1957; and attended the College of the USAF and University of Hawaii, majoring in Meteorology.

Ed retired from the Air Force after 25 years of service, as a Senior Master Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he was Chief Programmer for the Automated Weather Network in the Air Weather Service.

After retiring from the Air Force, Ed worked for Raytheon in Massachusetts. He was the senior meteorologist on the design team for the Doppler Weather Radar system.

After moving to Florida, he helped develop weather systems architecture for the USAF and NASA in support of the eastern and western launch ranges. He retired from the Boeing Company as a Chief Meteorologist.

He was a volunteer staff meteorologist for Satellite Beach and Melbourne Beach and assisted in emergency management. He was also an administrator with the Central Florida Hurricane Center website.

Ed loved shells. He was one of a handful of worldwide authorities on the Molluscan family of terebridae, and in 2008, Granuliterebra eddunhami was named in his honor. His terebra collection, one of the most complete in the world, has been donated to the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville.

Ed was an active bowler at Harbour Lanes and enjoyed his interaction with league members, some of which became close friends.

Ed belonged to several clubs including the Astronaut Trail Shell Club, the National Weather Association (charter member), and the Brevard County Orchid Society (honorary life member), Green Mountain Club of VT.

His pallbearers will be: Mr. Thomas Perrine Jr (lead pallbearer), Mr. Russel King, Mr. Jim LaMountain, Mr. Gregory Mabins, Mr. Bill Roth, Mr. Danny Whiting and Mr. Charlie Adorno.

His honorary pallbearers are: Mr. Thomas Linder, Mr. Thomas Perrine Sr., Mr. Dan Rocque, Mr. Dave Siegrist, Mr. Joe Grezaffi and Mr. Alan Gettleman.

Those that guided him along his path in life include his first wife Ms. Judith Dunham, Olympia WA; Mr. Terry Cox, Suwanee GA; Ms. Joyce O'Flaherty, Palm Bay, FL; and Mr. Yves Terryn, Belgium.

He is survived by his wife, Bettye Dunham; his daughter, Cindy Fenster (& her husband, Mark Fenster); his son, Mark Dunham; his brother, Richard Dunham; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Edward and Imogene Huntington; his mother, Thelma Greenia; and his sister, Donna.

He touched the lives of many in so many ways, and will always be remembered as an outstanding and caring Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Friend, & Mentor.
