Obituary

Edward "Ed" Green, 67 of Cocoa, FL passed April 23, 2023 at home, surrounded by love, after a lengthy struggle with bladder cancer.

Originally from Waltham, MA, Ed was born on November 10, 1955 to Eva (Miller) Green and Norman Green. As a teen, Ed was a member of the USAF Auxiliary leadership program for youth, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), which truly changed the trajectory of his life in many ways both personally and professionally. After earning an associate at Northeastern University in Boston, Ed enlisted in the US Army where he was able to apply his skills and interests in aviation garnered from his time with CAP in becoming an Air Traffic Controller. Ed would go on to have a 36 year career in Federal service transitioning from air traffic in the Army to air traffic with the Federal Aviation Administration at Boston Center climbing the ranks through various management, training and investigative positions including serving as Tower Operations Chief for a few years at the International JetPort in Portland, ME. Ed retired from the FAA in 2013, and in 2016 enrolled at Western Governors University completing both his BS and MS in Business in just over 18 months simply because he "always wanted to finish" school.

As a teen in CAP, Ed met his best friend, Marilyn, who also happened to become the love of his life. The pair were friends for more than a decade before going on their first date which led to their marriage in 1985. Ed and Marilyn created and lived a beautiful life together with their two greatest gifts being their children, Rachel and Jesse. Together, the Green Family were longtime residents of Hampton, NH. After the kids were grown and Ed retired, he and Marilyn left Hampton for a new adventure landing in Cocoa Village, FL.

Ed immersed himself in his new community and enjoyed taking his scooter to breakfast to "solve world problems" with his breakfast buddies Tom, Tank, Alan, and Bob among others who'd join as schedules would allow. He ran for local office, tinkered with HAM radio and was a bona fide foodie with a palate like no other. He loved to take trips, try new things and do (pretty much) anything with Marilyn; he'd say as long as they were together it didn't matter what they did. Ed shared his passions for cooking and the blues with Rachel, his love for the Boston Celtics and comedy with Jesse, and absolutely adored being a Grandpa to his 6 beautiful grandkids.

Ed leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Marilyn Green of Cocoa, FL., daughter Dr. Rachel Green Teague & wife Nina and grandkids Lily, Conner and Aidan of Amherst, NH., as well as son, Jesse Green and grandkids Autumn, Melody and Josiah of Hooksett, NH. Additionally, Ed leaves behind his mentor, Tom "Coach" Wasdin, and Ed's longtime "girlfriend(s)" Norma and Linda. Ed was always in awe of the life he lived, and only in his last months did he truly start to understand the imprint he had made on so many. We love you, Ed. You will truly be missed

We will be hosting a gathering remembering Ed for those who wish to share condolences and memories with his family at the Derby Street Chapel in Cocoa Village this Wednesday April 26th from 430-6pm.

In lieu of flowers and food, if so inclined, please feel free to make a donation in Ed's honor to the Cocoa Police Athletic League*. Checks can be made out to Cocoa PAL and addressed to: ANR, PO Box 727, Cocoa, FL 32923

*The Police Athletic League was founded in 1914 in New York and is the oldest and largest law enforcement-based youth crime prevention program in America. At the core program for delivery of youth services, the local Cocoa Police Athletic League is a juvenile delinquency prevention program that provides athletic and academic activities to youth. Through this program, with the support of the Cocoa Police Department and the City of Cocoa, we offer structured youth activities to keep children engaged. These include After-School tutoring and mentoring, career readiness, leadership training, crime prevention, gardening, and sports. Collaborative partnerships and financial support from individuals like Mr. Ed Green are fundamental to achieving positive outcomes for children. This summer, we will dedicate our community garden expansion in memory of Mr. Green, located at the PAL Center, 307 Blake Ave., Cocoa.
