Douglas Banta Gunn, 80, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, October 27, 2013 in Melbourne. Doug was born in Stamford, TX on September 11, 1933 and was the child of the late Donald and Rita Bartholowmew-Gunn. Doug was raised in Volusia County and became a longtime resident of Brevard County. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following his honorable service, he retired from the Aerospace Industry as a software technician. He was a passionate fisherman, lifelong member of the Volusia County Lifeguard Association and enjoyed coaching and being a mentor for various youth sports. Doug will be remembered as an honest, noble man that truly loved his family and country. Memories will be cherished by his son, Richard (Donna) of Melbourne, FL; daughter, Lucy (Rick) Patrick of Friendswood, TX; grandchildren, Linda McNolte, CA, A.J. Gunn of Friendswood, TX, Jamie Gunn of Melbourne, FL, Tonya Gunn of Orlando, FL, Freddy, Brenna, Rikki, and Victoria Patrick all of Friendswood, TX; four beautiful great-granddaughters and one unknown on the way; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Alice Cleighton in 2006. Family will greet friends on Saturday, November 2nd from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home in Melbourne with a Celebration of Doug's Life to follow at 12 p.m. Continue to celebrate Doug's life at the Crane Community Center, 1440 Mosswood Dr., Melbourne, FL 32935 immediately following the funeral services.
