Dorothea Gertrude Barden passed away August 16, 2015 at William Childs Hospice House.
She was born on May 13, 1925 in Springfield, Mass. to Gertrude Ryan Bumpus and Harold L. Bumpus.
Dot was a graduate of Commerce High School in 1943. She went to work at Smith & Wesson and met "Mr. Right" Marshall E. Barden. They married and moved to East Longmeadow, Mass. where they raised two children, Paul & Linda, a big garden and many animals. The family joined the Grange where Dorothea held office and had been a member for over 55 years. While living in East Longmeadow she taught classes at St. Michaels Church. Her work included driving school buses, a teller at The Greater Springfield Credit Union, working at Samuel Black and a receptionist at The Agawam Senior Center.
In 1994, she, her mother & daughter moved to Palm Bay where Dorothea spent her remaining years. She was predeceased by her brother, Paul Bumpus; sisters, Patricia Bumpus Cram and Frances C. Frappier. She leaves her daughter and full time caregiver, Linda; son, Paul M. (Marguerite) Barden; grandsons, Lance Barden, Scott Barden, John (Dianne) Caron; great-granddaughters, Holly Barden, MaryKate Caron and Nikki Caron. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and her Woodside family, all of whom were of great importance to her.
Mass will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Palm Bay on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 8:30 AM. Please wear Florida colors (pastels).
