Mrs. Doris Maud Stoddart (Nee Mowatt) passed away on February 13th, 2017 in Palm Bay, Florida. She was born on March 22nd, 1928 in St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies to Lelia Hamilton and Cyril Mowatt. When she was 19 years old, she became a mother to her two young sisters when their mother Lelia passed away. She later met and married Percival Stoddart and bore children of her own. She was a kind, selfless woman who was always concerned about the well-being of others. She was an excellent seamstress and an avid gardener. She enjoyed tending to her plants and treated them with love. Doris also enjoyed listening to country and gospel music; her favorite artists were Jim Reeves and Skeeter Davis. Mrs. Stoddart also looked forward to having conversations with her family members and friends, but especially enjoyed moments when they visited. She loved doing crossword puzzles and knitting. Her husband Percival Stoddart, daughter Pastor Jacqueline Smith, brother Van Roy Mowatt, and grandson Adrian Stoddart preceded her in death. She is survived by devoted daughters Clover Griffiths (Errol), Dianne Smith (Erwin), Christine Cobb (Jerry), sons Anthony and Morris Stoddart, grandchildren Yanique, Kim, Marsha, Peta-Gaye, Nicola, Andre, Rohan, Ian, Jaylan, Sanjay, and two great grandchildren. She also leaves behind two sisters, Norma Lawrence and Lorna Gallimore, several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
A visitation will be held Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 1-3 pm at the DAVIS SEAWINDS Funeral Home, 560 Montreal Avenue, Melbourne followed by a service at 3:00pm in the chapel. Burial will take place at a later date in Jamaica.
