Donovan Albert Huseman, 81, of Melbourne, FL, who was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather passed away unexpectedly and went to heaven May 27th, 2018. Don was born in Daisytown, Pennsylvania, January 15th, 1937 and is pre-deceased by his parents Albert and Annie (Spitak) Huseman, his sister Delores (Huseman) Brewer and his beloved wife of almost Sixty Years Carol L. (Jones) Huseman. Albert and Annie were the children of proud immigrants who pursued a better life for themselves when they had to flee Europe to avoid the horrors of WWI and settled in the Southern Pennsylvania area. Albert and Annie learned early from their parents humble beginnings and worked tirelessly to provide for themselves and their children including working the Coal Mines of Southern Pennsylvania which eventually resulted in Black Lung Disease. Don grew up watching them work until everyone was provided for despite the consequences and he lived his life by the same high moral and ethical standards always placing family first.

As a young child, Don and his family moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1945 where his parents both pursued factory work for General Motors. Don loved his new home town and often spoke fondly of the fresh and hot Detroit style "Egg Bagels" that he would pick up on his way to school. Don began work at an early age and always had a job to help the family and pay for his own expenses while in school… but he knew that greater things awaited him. At the age of 17, Don enlisted in the Air Force and left home to see the world. After boot camp, Don was assigned to exotic duty stations in Japan… and was lastly stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa Florida, the home of the Strategic Air Command.

Don loved the Tampa area, bought and drove a fancy convertible car (working a second job at a gas station to pay for it) and frequented the drive-ins and doughnut shops made famous in the Nineteen Fifties era. It was there that he met the love of his life "Carol L. Jones" who was instantly drawn to that handsome guy in his convertible. Her Father started, owned and operated a well-known local Donut shop (Jack Frost Donuts) on 4th Street South in Saint Petersburg and it was working there with her family that she learned her strong work ethic and family values that drew Don to her like a Moth to a Flame. Don met her in 1957 and they were married on June 20th, 1958… married for just shy of 60 years to the woman who he still referred to as his girlfriend. After being discharged from the Air Force, Don applied for the Saint Petersburg Police Department and began his career in law enforcement in that community. Over the next few years... they grew their family and in 1967 they realized that the Saint Petersburg area was not going to provide enough opportunity for them to build the life they dreamed of.

So, in search of a more lucrative life for them and their budding family, Don and Carol moved to Westland Michigan in 1967 and Don became a police officer and Carol gained employment with the City of Westland in their Finance Department. They bought a home and raised their children in the Westland and NOVI areas of Michigan and Don went back to school pursuing and completing his degree in Law Enforcement. Retiring after eighteen years, Don and Carol then moved to Palm Bay, FL and began their second life and careers. Don became a Bailiff for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office and worked the court houses of Brevard County for over ten years being involved in many historic and famous cases during that time. Carol worked at an Estate Liquidation Firm and stayed at home enjoying her retirement with the grand children. After Don retired from Law Enforcement for the second time… he began his third career as a driver for a Recreational Vehicle Retailer (Camping World) and he and Carol traveled extensively across the United States numerous times delivering and picking up Campers. They frequently joked that they were getting paid to travel while being retired. Don worked at this until he was almost Eighty (80) Years old and could never imagine not having something to do when he woke up in the morning.

During this time period they had moved to Melbourne, FL and were well established in the community where Carol played Bells in the Bell Choir at First Christian Church of Melbourne where they were active members. Don and Carol were blessed to travel extensively and visited over 15 countries, had numerous motorcycle trips across the USA and were frequent cruise passengers. Until health problems prevented, Don and Carol used to dance the night away. He loved construction and working with his hands and refurbished numerous homes over the years for not only he and Carol, but also for numerous other family and friends. But Don and Carols favorite time was always spent with their home filled with family where she was both cook and game master orchestrating the fun for all and he sat back and relished in his kids, grandkids and great grandchildren. His favorite line was threatening that he was not going to give the babies back to the parents when he was holding them. Being ex-police, Don often laughed while he told new boy and girl friends to the family that he still owned weapons and that they had better not hurt his family… but at the end of the laughter everyone knew that Don's family was the most important thing in the world to him and that he considered himself to be their "great protector" until his dying day. On December 17, 2017 Don lost the "Love of his Life" Carol L. Huseman and every day thereafter he mourned and longed to be reunited with her. He loved his family deeply and viewed all of his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren as his reason to keep going… but with his passing, all that know him realize that, having the confidence that they raised their family to survive and persevere, he never looked back while he ran gleefully with arms wide open to his beloved Carol.
