Obituary

Donald Schweikert passed away February 12, 2025, at his home in Indialantic, FL. Don was born on January 22, 1943, in Woodbury, New Jersey.

Don received his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania and his Master's degree at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.

In 1993, Don left California and headed to Cape May, NJ. He purchased an old historic home near the Cape May beach and started a Bed and Breakfast business which he navigated with his friend, Erik Struky for over thirty years. He named the historic house "Saltwood." This charming Inn was his "child" that he birthed and nurtured along with the many patrons who returned year after year due to his constant vigilance and attention to details. He was an excellent host!

The charming B&B reflected Don's unabashed love of antiques which enveloped every area of the Inn with class, comfort and the "feeling" of home. When entering the magical inn, you were sure to find guests deep in conversation, people watching, or relaxing the day or evening away on the wonderful front porch.

Don's passion for antiques was insatiable. He knew the history of every table, dresser, statue, picture or lamp that he collected. He loved to go to antique and flea markets to look for interesting pieces. He loved antique lamps. He acquired the skills necessary to refurbish his treasures to look like new. This passion ended only with his death.

His generosity was matched only by his intelligent sense of humor. He loved visiting people, knowing their history, and remembering their names.

Don is survived by his brother, John (Denette) Schweikert Jr. from Melbourne, Florida; his nephews, John and Alexander Schweikert, and several cousins. In addition, he has a plethora of friends who will miss him.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Don in the near future. No date has been set as yet. It will be held at the Outrigger Condominium where Don resided.
