Donald A. Krier, Early Big Data Processing Professional, Dies at 82
Donald Allen Krier, a retired Corporate Data Security Executive, died on November 7, 2016, in Titusville, Florida. The cause was pneumonia. He was 82.
Mr. Krier was born on October 30, 1936, in Troy, Idaho to parents Herman and Daphne Couchman Krier. He was one of two children, born after his sister, Jean Stafford. Mr. Krier graduated from the University of Idaho in 1958. After graduation, he served in the United States Army, where he served for two years and was awarded with a Good Conduct Medal. After completing his tour of duty, Mr. Krier moved to New York City, where he met his wife, Joan Moneypenny Krier. They married on September 22, 1962. A longtime resident of New Jersey, Joan and Don raised four children, a son, Paul, and three daughters, Barbara, Siobhan, and Signe. Mr. Krier was among the early computer professionals, programming and managing data on mainframe computers for large corporations such as E.F. Hutton and Citibank. Going out on his own, Mr. Krier formed Krier Associates, travelling all over the United States as a Data Security Consultant for several major corporations. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Krier was a founding member of Monmouth County Service Forces and a member of Gordons Corner Fire Company. After retiring, Don and Joan moved to Florida.
Don was predeceased by his wife of fifty-four years. He is survived by their children, Paul Krier of Manahawkin, NJ, Barbara Garofalo of Melbourne, FL, Siobhan Krier of Keyport, NJ, and Signe Avento of Melbourne, FL; five grandchildren, John Garofalo, Moira Krier, Olivia Krier, Isobel Avento, and Colin Avento and his beloved Cairn Terrier, Finn. He will be greatly missed.
Committal Service and burial will be at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Cape Canaveral, Florida on January 11, 2019 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Homes for Our Troops at hfotusa.org.
