Obituary

Diane R. Dearing, 93, of Melbourne, met her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 6th, 2022. She was with her children by her side.

She was born to the late Albert and Martha Fischer on July 26, 1929 in Chicago, IL. Diane graduated from Norwegian American Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, IL from 1947-1950 and graduated at the top of her class. She married the late Dale Dearing in 1951 and they lived in Danville, IL for 6 years before moving to Melbourne in 1957. Diane lived in the family home they purchased in 1957 until the time of her passing.

Diane was a surgical neonatal nurse at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. After moving to Melbourne she then began working for Brevard Hospital (Holmes Regional Medical Center) on 3 North the medical floor for terminal cancer patients, heart and pulmonary cases and diagnostic cases. She was a medical nurse, team leader, Rx nurse and bedside nurse.

She then transferred to Medic-Home Nursing Home; geriatric nursing for the next 4.5 years. She was Charge Nurse, Relief Nurse (all shifts) ordering, counting and dispensing medications; treatments, IVs, dressings, inhalation therapy bedside care and legal charting. She supervised and taught all home healthcare aides and assistants.

In 1975 she cared for her terminally ill husband and father-in-law for the next five years doing home care and nursing. After her husband's passing in 1980 she returned to full time nursing at Alcoholics Anonymous at Ocean Side Serenity in Indialantic. After Ocean Side Serenity closed she then began nursing with Hospice in Melbourne until she retired in 2011 at the age of 82.

Her many accomplishments were working in a VA hospital with paraplegics, medical neurology patients, patients in Iron Lungs and on Striker Frames. She worked in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Premature Infants. She was a Relief Office Nurse, Float/Relief Nurse, and General Staff Nurse. She worked isolated cases with Meningitis and Typhoid, Alcoholics, Geriatrics and the Terminally Ill.

In 2011, she was honored as the Oldest Working Nurse in Brevard County.

Diane (loving known as Nonnie, Nonzarelli, Wrinkles McGee, Dippy Do and many more loving nicknames) is survived by her 3 children, Jack Dearing (Karen) of Viera, FL, Susan McCreery (William), of Pinehurst, NC, and David Dearing (Tammy) of Palm Bay, FL.

She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Matthew Feustel of Las Vegas, NV, Jessica Feustel of Ocala, FL, Kelly Dearing (Rebecca) of Palm Bay, FL, Kyle Dearing (Brenda) of Freeport, FL, Kady Dowst (Matt) of Ormond Beach, FL, Jodi Miranda (Angel) of Palm Bay, FL, Kory Dearing of Melbourne, FL, Kaley Mosby (Josh) of Tampa, FL, and Megan McCreery of Daytona Beach, FL; her 12 great grandchildren, Landen and Conner Dearing of Freeport, FL, Gage White, Katelynn Lewis and Johnathan White of Troutman, NC, Mikayla, Ava and Delihla Dearing of Palm Bay, FL, Sebastian and Noah Miranda of Palm Bay, FL. and Maya and Eli Mosby of Tampa, FL.

Her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 12th at 11:00 am at the Davis Seawards Funeral Home located at 560 Montreal Ave, Melbourne, FL 32935, with Pastor Johnson from St. Timothy Lutheran Church, presiding.

The family is requesting that donations be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Melbourne, FL, and/or Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL.
