IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Deloris Yuvonne
Walker
March 24, 1938 – October 4, 2024
On October 4th, Deloris Yuvonne Killman (Havener, Walker), affectionately known as Dee, lost her courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 24, 1938, in Harco, a small town in Southern Illinois, Dee was raised on a farm until her family moved to Taylorville, where she spent her school years. She often reflected on her happiest moments from her childhood on the farm in Harco.
Dee's journey took her to Decatur, Illinois, where she met her first husband, Bill Havener, who was enlisted in the Air Force. Bill's military career led them to Germany, where they welcomed two sons, Roy and Gary Havener. As a military wife, Dee traveled extensively throughout Europe, embracing new experiences.
Upon returning to the United States, Dee became a licensed cosmetologist, a fulfilling career she dedicated herself to for 46 years. She later met her second husband, John Walker, at Chanute Air Force Base. They settled in Rantoul, Illinois, until John's retirement, after which they moved to the town of Indialantic, Florida—a place they both cherished deeply.
In Indialantic, Dee not only owned a business but also volunteered for the town council for five years, earning a key to the city for her contributions.
Her adventurous spirit took her and John around the world, including memorable journeys to Saudi Arabia, where they lived for a time, as well as explorations throughout Europe. One of her most remarkable experiences was standing at 13,000 feet on Mount Everest, where she had the privilege of meeting the Lama in Nepal. Dee's travels also included visits to Kenya, Hong Kong, Egypt, and Hawaii, with her time on Mount Everest being among her most treasured memories.
Deloris is preceded in death by her husband, John Walker, and her youngest son, Gary Havener. She is survived by her oldest son, Roy Havener; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
For over 40 years, Dee valiantly fought various battles with cancer, demonstrating remarkable strength until the very end. As she often said, she was ready for peace.
