Obituary

David Gant

Melbourne, FL

David R. Gant, 90, a native Floridian passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2012 with his family and friends at his bedside. He served in the United States Army for four years during World War II as a Chaplain's Assistant and spent most of his active duty on the Burma Road. After his honorable discharge from the service, David married Juanita, his wife of 62 years. David was called to the ministry and served as a minister for the Church of God based in Cleveland, Tennessee, during his lifetime. His congregations included Brooksville, New Smyrna Beach, LaBelle, Lake Placid, Ft. Meade, Titusville, and Melbourne. At the time of his death, he was still serving in ministry at Discover Life Church in Melbourne.

During the long illness of his wife, Juanita, who preceded him in death, Rev. Gant was a devoted husband and caregiver, ministering both to his wife's physical and spiritual needs. His children often found him in their mother's room asleep in the chair next to her bed.

Survivors include daughters, Allene Austin (Glyndon), Shirley Hitte (Ken), and Carolyn Saxon (Ben); grandchildren, Melodie Young, David Austin, Ken Hitte, Jason Hitte, Chris Hitte, Ben Saxon, Jr., Candice Reed, Hillary Nack, and Jodi Nunno; and 22 great grandchildren. Three of Rev. Gant's grandsons followed in his footsteps and are actively serving as ministers.
