IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Anthony
Christopher Rudloff
December 17, 1940 – July 29, 2024
Dr. David Anthony Christopher Rudloff, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed physician, passed away on July 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years, Sunny Jean (Presley) Rudloff, and his cherished children: Rachael (Rudloff) Miller (Ryan and Charlie), Brian Rudloff (Elpida, Amalea, and Adam), and Alexander Rudloff (Kathryn, Peter, Andrew, and Matthew).
Born on December 17, 1940, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Dr. Rudloff was predeceased by his parents, Rev. Anthony Charles and Edra Hall Rudloff, as well as his siblings, Retha Rudloff MD, Paula Rudloff Gage, and Randol Rudloff.
Dr. Rudloff graduated from Kaiserslautern High School, completed his Pre-Medical Education at the University of Miami, Miami, Florida, and subsequently received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Miami in 1965. As a new intern at Jackson Memorial Hospital, he met Sunny, a young nurse whose optimism and compassion captured his heart. After an additional year of a general surgery residency, they were married. Soon after their marriage, Dr. Rudloff was drafted into the Army and served as a general surgeon at the 121st Evacuation Hospital in Korea as well as Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Upon completion of his service, he returned to the University of Miami for three years of specialty training in Orthopaedics.
Settling in the Melbourne, Florida, area in 1973, Dr. Rudloff established a distinguished practice contributing to what was then a 200-bed hospital known as Brevard Hospital. He became involved in the community, volunteering as a team physician for various high schools, helping to establish a scoliosis screening program for junior high schools, and establishing a wellness screening program for young athletes. His volunteer activities extended to his church, Eastminster Presbyterian Church, as well as many other civic organizations.
Dr. Rudloff was an early adopter of the art of Arthroscopy and was a founding member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America as well as the International Arthroscopy Association. He was a Board Certified Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedics and a member of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Rudloff's greatest pride was his family, and he found immense joy in raising his three children, all of whom later returned to Brevard County to raise their own families. He was a devoted grandfather who relished his retirement years with his grandchildren.
A lifelong learner with an adventurous spirit, Dr. Rudloff was known for his voracious reading habits, impeccable green thumb, and enthusiasm for adventure, including climbing Mt. Fuji, Mt. Rainier, and Mt. St. Helens. His patients admired his gentle demeanor and compassionate care, while his colleagues respected his dedication and leadership within the medical community.
A memorial service will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Indialantic, Florida on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Eastminster Presbyterian Mission Fund (106 N Riverside Drive, Indialantic, FL 32903) or The Haven for Children (PO Box 327, Melbourne, FL 32902).
