Dale Trent Leighty
October 29, 1933 - September 12, 2017

Dale Trent Leighty, known by most as Skip, passed on September 12, 2017. He was born in Kendallville, Indiana to Marjorie and Edward Leighty on October 29, 1933.

After attending electrical trade school in Chicago, he served in the Army in Texas from 1956 to 1958 and the Army Reserve until 1962. He moved to Brevard where he was employed as an electrician at Cape Canaveral. In 1969, he co-founded Perry & Leighty Well Drilling, a company he enjoyed running until his passing.

From age 21, he was a life-long member of the Elks. He served on the Melbourne Village Planning and Zoning Committee and the Town Review Board.

He married Sarah Yelton in 1961, and they were married almost 50 years when she passed. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and family man as well as a loyal friend and business man.

Dale is predeceased by his wife, Sarah Yelton Leighty, his parents Marjorie and Edward Leighty, and sister, Karen Axel, and survived by his children, Laura (Steve) Wade, Lisa (David) Blankenship, and Erik (Bethany) Leighty and his grandchildren, Trent, Garrett and Sarah Wade, Rebecca and Alex Blankenship, and Harland and Hayes Leighty.

A memorial service will be held at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home on Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 pm. It will be preceded by an Elks send-off at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or the Melbourne Elks Lodge #1744.
