Obituary

Col. Roger Myhrum, a distinguished veteran, devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 27th, 2024, at the age of 92, in Satellite Beach, Florida. He was born to Ella and Redvald Myhrum in Fosston, Minnesota, on February 1, 1932. He is survived by his wife Sue Myhrum; daughters Trudy Currie, Traci Myhrum and Kim Jenkins as well as 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Col. Myhrum's life was marked by courage, dedication, and a commitment to service. After graduating from Fosston High School he joined the Air Force as an enlisted man, always with the dream of becoming a pilot. After a battery of tests he qualified for the aviation cadet program and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on June 10, 1954.

Over the course of 26 years in the Air Force, Col. Myhrum distinguished himself through his exemplary service, completing over 550 combat missions in Vietnam. His unwavering bravery and leadership earned him the rank of Colonel, and he retired from the Air Force on March 30, 1978, with a legacy of honor and valor as well as lifelong friendships.

Transitioning to the private sector, Col. Myhrum continued to make significant contributions to the field of aviation. He worked with Northrop, providing support and training for the Saudi Air Force, before joining Sikorsky as a Vice President, where he played a pivotal role in supporting helicopter contracts in the Middle East. His expertise was further sought after by McDonnell Douglas, where he spent a year in Kuwait in 1996, contributing to their endeavors. He retired at the age of 65 in July 1997.

Outside of his professional acheivements, Col. Myhrum was a devoted family man and an active member of his community. He shared 51 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sue Myhrum.  He took immense pride in his children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. During his retirement years in Arizona, Col. Myhrum found joy in leisurely pursuits, sharing time with friends and playing golf and tennis several times a week. He also dedicated himself to charitable endeavors, serving his community through his involvement with the Kiwanis Club and Meals on Wheels. He and Sue moved to Satellite Beach, Florida in 2018 to be closer to family.

Col. Roger Myhrum will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, his steadfast leadership, and his profound love for his family and community. His legacy of service, optimism and selflessness will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
