IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clare R
Metzel
March 25, 1931 – May 18, 2023
Clare Rosalie Metzel (1931-2023) of Melbourne passed suddenly and peacefully May 18, surprising all those who believed as she did, that she would live to be one hundred twenty.
Clare leaves son Stephen (Kaye) Wright of Knoxville, Tennessee and granddaughter Jenny Wright of Macon, Georgia. She has joined many who awaited her arrival in heaven including her beloved husband of thirty-five years John Metzel, daughter Lynne Wright Self, sisters Sue Vella and Gracie Dick, and mother Ann and father Frank Marcello who emigrated from Sicily, Italy.
After many years of service working at the Bureau of Standards in Maryland, Clare retired and she and John settled in Melbourne, Florida, where she continued to be active and hold office in Ladies' Oriental Shrine North America Hadji Court No. 88 and Daughters of the Nile. She was a member of Saint Sebastian's of the Sea Episcopal Church. Those who remember Clare know her generous nature as well as her fondness for crab legs, Italian food, bingo, and fun. Special thanks to all the people at Gentle Hand Assisted Living Facility in Palm Bay, where she happily spent her final weeks, to Emily Stevens with Harmony Senior Living Advisers, and to loyal friends Francie and Emily Bryant.
