Beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and colleague Charles "Chuck" Holmes Hofmann, SR., longtime resident of Melbourne, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home, on December 6th, 2012. He was 71. Chuck was born in Berwyn, Illinois on December 16th 1940 to Cordelia "Cody" Lyon Hofmann and Fredrick "Fritz" Holmes Hofmann of LaGrange, Illinois. He was the youngest of three sons, being preceded in birth by two brothers Fredrick Lyon Hofmann and Bradford Lyon Hofmann. Chuck's early childhood was spent in Yorkville, Illinois where the family moved to open a manufacturing business. In 1953 the family moved to Wheaton, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago where Chuck graduated from Wheaton High School in 1959. Chuck attended college in Menomonie, Wisconsin at Stout State College, which is now the part of the University of Wisconsin. He majored in Industrial Arts and minored in English, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963. In 1961, Chuck married Mary Jane Morgan and welcomed the birth of a son, Charles Holmes Hofmann, JR and in 1966 the birth of a daughter, Lee Morgan Hofmann.
Chuck's career spanned 41 years starting in 1963 with a stint as an Industrial Arts teacher at Burlington High School in Burlington, Wisconsin and ending in 2004 when he retired as a Certified Financial Planner from A.G.Edwards in Melbourne, Florida. In the intervening years Chuck held jobs with Ford Motor Company, Liberty Mutual Life Insurance and Security Benefits of Topeka, Kansas. Chuck SR was smart, funny, creative, generous and caring throughout his life. He was devoted to his family, a true friend and a respected colleague to those lucky enough to call him that. Chuck touched the lives of countless people and will be remembered with joy, but his laughter will be sorely missed. Chuck was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his two brothers. Chuck SR is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Jane Morgan Hofmann, his son Charles Holmes Hofmann JR and daughter-in-law Joni Miller Hofmann, daughter Lee Morgan Hofmann, grandson Sean Nicholas Hofmann and a loving extended family. Family will greet friends from 12PM - 1PM on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home in Melbourne with a memorial service to follow at 1PM.
